POBR Day 4

Today was a travel day. We made our way to Wellpinit, Spokane. We are working with their tribes' fisheries program, but we are based out of the Wellpinit Fairgrounds. I’m not sure what we are going to do but I’m ready. On our way here we stopped at a place called Dry Falls which is a geological wonder of the world. I love seeing old landmarks like this especially from the ice age. It is mind blowing how powerful Earth’s processes and natural events can be. I liked reading about how the Lake Missoula Floods tore through the basalt layers of rock to form wide canyons in not one but two different spots. Considering the hardness of basalt rocks it is amazing how fast that water had to have gone since it was built up behind a massive ice dam that broke, similarly to a bomb, blasting free the water behind it. Seeing these formations today is interesting since there are remnants of the plunge pool at the base of the dry waterfall- where the massive waterfall did fall- and seeing how it still has a little bit of water available. I’d assume wildlife use it but who knows. There seemed to be a wetlands habitat down in the bottom of the canyon so that’s cool. It was also dry; the sun would’ve been searing if it wasn’t for the wind blowing. That wind made me nervous to be at the edge even with the large chain fencing aimed to keep you at a reasonable distance. Anyways, we start at 8 am tomorrow and again, not sure what the plan is but hopefully tonight's sleep isn’t too rough considering I had a long day just existing and being super sleepy. I was tossing and turning last night since the previous work day was full of field work exercise doing lifting and walking but its all good, I loved being in the Yakama Nation Closed Area with Pahto in full view… not so  much the case now since we are away from home on the land of the Spokane Tribe of Indians which is cool because I want to see how they operate and perform their science. I can’t imagine it being wildly different, but I am open to whatever work they have planned for our group.

I will add images when I have stronger wifi connection. @Jessica
